My name is Audrey Laporte. I am a sworn translator and interpreter in English and Spanish, specialized in the administrative, institutional, legal, medical and tourism fields, and both an entrepreneur and a partner in the business and employment cooperative Kanopé. The bilingual and bicultural Franco-Spanish environment in which I grew up sparked my passion for languages. A passion that has never stopped growing over the years. Building bridges is what drives me.
Through this pursuit of the right word, I have found my way to express my curiosity, my unwavering desire to learn, and my attention to detail. In recent years, I have lived, studied and worked in the United Kingdom, Spain and Belgium. Spain is like my second home, since I go back there several times a year. Thanks to these experiences, I have benefited from a training environment on a linguistic, cultural, and professional level.
My work experience
In January 2015, I translated casino hotel presentation sheets from English into French, proofread and revised translations in my mother tongue for the company Hotel Casino Resort. I discovered tourism translation and learned its conventions, as well as the specific vocabulary of the gambling, casino, and tourism sectors.
In April 2016, I gained new professional experience with the AFIPTISP association. My role consisted of writing content related to the association’s activities, translating information documents on translation and interpreting in public services into Spanish and French, collecting documentation and carrying out bibliographic research. In performing these tasks, I learned to focus and refine my research, assess the validity of sources and sort the results. The acquisition of these skills is a real asset, as they allow me to quickly identify the specific terminology of a field.
From September 2017 to February 2018, I worked in Brussels at the French translation unit of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) to deepen my linguistic knowledge, develop my skills, and enrich my work experience. I had the opportunity to learn how to use TRADOS computer-assisted translation software, translate, among other things, legislative texts, policy documents, reports and correspondence from English and Spanish into French, and broaden my areas of expertise by adding institutional translation.
Determined, ambitious, and eager to give free rein to my aspirations as well as my need for freedom and diversification, I decided to embark on the entrepreneurial adventure in March 2021.
After studying there a few years earlier, I taught computer-assisted translation at the University of Pau between 2022 and 2024, alongside my entrepreneurial work. We can say that the circle is complete! 😁
In January 2023, I received my letter for Hogwarts, or rather, THE letter of acceptance for my application to be listed as an expert translator and interpreter at the Court of Appeal of Pau.
My education
In 2014, I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Applied Foreign Languages at the University of Pau (France). As part of this training, I received fundamental lessons in mastering my specialist languages (English and Spanish) and my mother tongue (French). In my third year, I studied one semester at the University of Sheffield (United Kingdom) with the Erasmus program.
During the 2015-2016 academic year, I participated in the exchange program between the Universities of Pau (France) and Alcalá (Spain) to pursue a dual degree. Since 2016, I have held a trilingual Master’s degree in Translation and Documentation professions (French/English/Spanish) and a European Master’s degree in Intercultural Communication, Public Service Interpreting and Translation (French/Spanish). These degrees have enabled me to consolidate my knowledge of translation techniques, to train myself in terminology research and subtitling, to become familiar with CAT tools such as Wordfast Anywhere and to specialize in administrative, legal and medical translations.
After winning the Rising Star contest organized by the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA), I attended their annual conference on translation and localization in New York, in March 2016. In October 2016 and November 2017, I also took part in the Translating Europe Forum, which was held at the European Commission and brought together translation professionals.
